It seemed an appropriate postscript to the Canucks’ disappointing season to see the Sedin twins lighting up the IIHF World Championship. Not long after they got off the plane, the Sedins began writing an epilogue to the tire fire they left behind in Vancouver, and it’s one Canucks management would be wise not to just brush off because there’s more ice.

Sweden has the opportunity to win an IIHF World Championship as the host country for the first time since the Soviet Union did it in 1986.
Henrik Sedin "It's two different things. To lose in the playoffs, it's obviously tough. To get a chance to do something good, it's fun."

The Vancouver Canucks have no salary-cap space available, a shortage of National Hockey League-ready prospects and lack portability among their key player contracts. Other than that, general manager Mike Gillis’ summer “reset” of the team shouldn’t be a problem.
mike gillis "In order to get players to play for less than market value, you have to give them something they can rely upon, I think if a player was unhappy here, he’d waive his no-trade. If we were unhappy with him, it would be obvious and he would waive his no-trade. But that’s not a path we’re looking to right now. I think we need to supplement our core group of players that are here as best we can, and then look at possibilities down the road."
Daniel Sedin "(Players) want that (no-trade clause) because they really like it here, They love the city and they love to play hockey here and they want to win here. Is it fair to come back and ask them to waive that? I don’t know. That’s something I can’t really answer."

It’s not a front-burner issue for the Vancouver Canucks — not with the uncertain fate of the coaching staff after the NHL club was swept in first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs — but that back-burner issue of relocating the franchise’s new AHL club is heating up. A source has indicated Utica, N.Y., is the front-runner to be named home to the Peoria Rivermen, who were pur

The mocking didn’t take long to hit social media on Thursday morning once it was publicly revealed that Canucks defenceman Chris Tanev will conduct his own contract negotiations on a new deal, with his father, Mike, as his “advisor.” An NHL player contract being negotiated without a certified agent is unusual, and some of the online posts suggested the Tanevs would be taken to th

Watching Canada go down in a shootout at the quarterfinals of the World Hockey Championship once again was just like watching the very first Karate Kid movie all over again. While Mr. Miyagi was decidedly absent, the hero was Daniel-san and once again the bad guy of the piece decided to “sweep the leg.”

It was telling in the aftermath of the Boston’s Game 7 shocking win that Bruins forward Milan Lucic admitted he thought it was over. Not just the game, when the Toronto Maple Leafs went up 4-1 in the third period, but also his team’s run. But the Bruins came back to win 5-4 in overtime.
Henrik Sedin "I think that’s the way we can play when we’re at our best,"
Henrik Sedin "We rarely showed up and played that way. (Maybe) that’s because of the history we have with this team, going to the finals. I don’t know if it’s because in the regular season it’s tough to get going again"

Before setting off for the World Championships to play for Sweden — where that country hopes to be in the final it is hosting — Canucks captain Henrik Sedin stood up for Canucks coach Alain Vigneault at the end-of-season meet and greet with the media. And why wouldn’t he. After all, as the captain, it’s his job to pretend it’s a wonderful sailing ship that just happen
Henrik Sedin "One of the main things is that our power play hasn’t been very good, that’s the main thing, We’ve had a few injuries to key guys that you need on your power play. If that percentage goes up to where it should be, I think those are the goals we’re missing. That’s been the problem this year, and it was last year as well."

The Vancouver Canucks have been given 30 days by the American Hockey League to decide what they are going to do with their AHL franchise.
scott arniel "You know, these conversations started a while ago and it has gone everywhere from Abbotsford, to Rogers Arena, to Peoria. to who-knows-where, Obviously you want to get an answer soon and get organized. The players will have been in three different cities in three years -- the guys who were in Winnipeg and Chicago and now to a new city -- so you do want some stability that way. It's a tough decision, but I know the Canucks are working towards getting their own team somewhere and have a spot where they can groom their young players."
